As my favorite rapper Shai Linne eloquently puts it, “Praise God the Holy Spirit, 3rd person of the Trinity / Distinct from Father and Son, yet share in Their divinity / Holy Spirit we praise You, You don’t like the spotlight / You’d rather point away from Yourself and give props to Christ” (Triune Praise from Attributes of God album). Even though He loves to point us to Christ, we do very well to study His Person and Work so we may rejoice all the more in Him!
Walking with the Spirit | J.I. Packer (Medium to Advanced). Written with more of an eye to various abuses or misunderstandings of the work of the Holy Spirit instead of being a complete treatment on Him. Nonetheless, there is still much to glean.
The Mystery of the Spirit | R.C. Sproul (Easy). A short, to the point read. As always, Sproul writes with great clarity in a very conversational manner.
The Holy Spirit | Sinclair Ferguson (Advanced). A thick book intended for the more advanced reader. Don’t expect to plow through this in a few days, but if you want an extended feast on the Person and Work of the Spirit, this is a great option.
The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit | R.A. Torrey (Medium). An oldie, but a goodie. Torrey, one of the first Deans of Biola University, my alma mater (woot woot!), unpacks the Person and Work of the Holy Spirit in short, clear chapters.
